Tratzberg Castle

This Renaissance gem among Austria’s castles was first mentioned in historical records in the 13th century and, as a former border fortress against Bavaria, served as a hunting lodge for Emperor Maximilian I. However, the original fortified castle was completely destroyed by fire in the late 15th century. Tratzberg Castle towers over the Inn Valley near Schwaz and is considered one of the most beautiful cultural monuments in Tyrol.

Schwaz Silver Mine – An Underground Adventure

The Schwaz Silver Mine is one of the most impressive tourist attractions in Tyrol. The mine train takes visitors about 800 meters into the mountain, where they can immerse themselves in the world of miners during an exciting guided tour. About 500 years ago, the rich silver and copper deposits made Schwaz the world’s largest mining hub.

A cool escape in any weather—the temperature in the silver mine remains a constant 12 degrees Celsius year-round, making it an ideal weather-independent destination and a refreshing change of pace on hot summer days. Underground, visitors are also shielded from seasonal pollen counts, which can be a relief for people with pollen allergies.

Our tip: This visit pairs perfectly with a trip to YOUR DOME Tirol in Schwaz or Tirolland Magic World in Terfens. Their attractions also include the popular “House Upside Down,” where the entire interior appears to be hanging from the ceiling.

Tyrolean Farm Museum

The Tyrolean Farmsteads Open-Air Museum offers a journey back in time. You’ll find 37 reconstructed original buildings—farmsteads and outbuildings from various valleys—charmingly nestled in the rolling hills against a backdrop of imposing mountains. Nearby is the Cemetery Museum—this “cemetery without the dead” is sure to bring a smile to every visitor’s face. Kramsach, home to the beautiful Reintalersee, is located about 25 km from Kaltenbach.

Rattenberg, the City of Glass

Rattenberg is Austria’s smallest town. With just under 400 residents, it’s the perfect setting for your vacation and a wonderful place to stroll, relax, and shop! In the medieval pedestrian zone, the traditional glassworks offer plenty to see. It’s well worth visiting one of the famous glassblowing workshops, such as Kisslinger Kristallglas. The numerous shops and excellent dining options are sure to delight you as well.

Innsbruck Alpine Zoo – A Family-Friendly Destination

At Europe’s highest-altitude zoo, families can see around 2,000 Alpine animals representing about 150 species in enclosures, terrariums, and aquariums designed to mimic their natural habitats. Ibex, eagles, wolves, and many other inhabitants of the Alps make the tour an exciting nature experience. Thanks to its hillside location at the foot of the Nordkette, the Alpenzoo also offers impressive views over the rooftops of Innsbruck.

Particularly popular with children are the educational farm with sheep, goats, and other animals, as well as the large playground featuring a bear cave. A visit can be perfectly combined with sightseeing and a day of shopping in Innsbruck—from the historic Old Town to Maria-Theresien-Straße with its numerous stores and shopping centers.

Swarovski Crystal Worlds

An extraordinary place of imagination, art, and the joy of play. The Crystal Worlds in Wattens were created in 1995 by multimedia artist André Heller. Surrounding the mighty giant that guards the entrance to the Crystal Worlds is a 7.5-hectare garden landscape featuring numerous attractions, including a garden with black mirror-like water, a play tower for children with a playground, and a maze.

The heart of the complex: the interior of the giant, with its 16 mystical chambers of wonders. The town of Wattens is located about 40 km from Kaltenbach and is easily accessible via the A12 highway.

Zillertal Adventure Dairy in Mayrhofen

From our family hotel in the Zillertal, the Mayrhofen Adventure Dairy is easily accessible and a worthwhile destination for the whole family. In the glass-walled demonstration dairy, visitors of all ages can see how hay milk is processed into cheese, yogurt, and other specialties, and watch the master cheesemakers at work.

A special highlight is the adjacent organic demonstration farm. Hay-fed dairy cows, sheep, goats, organic chickens, and bees bring farming to life in a vivid way. Mini tractors, an obstacle course, a hay barn, and other play areas also provide plenty of fun and variety for children.
